Oklahoma City, OK -- Whether from a natural disaster, chemical spill or a dirty bomb, toxic exposures are real threats. When Oklahoma Emergency Medical Services responders, physicians or nurses get the call about possible casualties from a hazardous materials incident, they need the most up-to-date knowledge and the training to provide effective, life-saving treatment.
On April 22 and 23, the Oklahoma Poison Control Center is offering the Advanced HAZMAT Life Support course to train Oklahoma emergency medical professionals how to provide expert medical care for victims of hazardous material incidents and toxic terrorism. Medical personnel need specialized knowledge of toxic substances to be able to rapidly assess poisoned patients, recognize the symptoms of particular toxic substances and immediately give specific antidotes.
This is a free, two-day AHLS course designed for paramedics, RNs, physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, military personnel and other Oklahoma emergency health care professionals. Upon completion of this comprehensive training program designed to provide the critical skills necessary to effectively manage all aspects of HAZMAT exposures, emergency medicine personnel will be ready to face the medical challenges that can come at any time.
Only a few enrollment slots are still available. For more information, please contact Shirley Christie at (405) 271-5062.
AHLS was developed at the Arizona Emergency Medical Research Center, a Center of Excellence at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, in collaboration with the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology.
